OUR
LAW OFFICE is devoted exclusively to the resolution of legal issues
affecting families and children.
This
area of the law once was limited primarily to divorces, but the
average American family has changed dramatically in our time. Many
children now are born to unmarried couples. Disputes over custody,
parenting time and child support often cross state lines and may
involve courts and administrative agencies in several jurisdictions.
When parents remarry, step-parents may be unsure of their rights and
responsibilities, and often want to adopt.
Conventional
divorces with or without children also have become
more intricate. The financial rights and responsibilities of
divorcing spouses typically extend beyond simple awards of alimony
and property; the valuation of business interests and investments,
together with pension, insurance and tax issues, can complicate the
division of marital assets.
Oregon
law has changed and expanded because of these and other
developments. Our courts and legislature have acknowledged
fundamental changes in typical family relationships. Oregons
judges and lawmakers have been particularly responsive to the needs
of families in crisis or transition.
The
law has changed so profoundly, however, that many persons involved
in domestic relations cases probably will be unaware of recent legal
developments. This website was created to provide reliable
information, resources and contacts for anyone with questions about
Oregon family law.
